COE Produces Public Service Announcements to Recruit Math and Science Teachers

Building on previous efforts to address teacher workforce development, the College of Education’s Connections to Teaching Careers, LEI Aloha, and Department of Educational Technology have developed three new public service announcements (PSAs).

Educational technology professor Curtis Ho explains, "The development plan for our series of PSAs included multiple audiences and conceptual evolution. Last year, we showcased real teachers sharing some of the intangible rewards of teaching. Now we’re showing students who learn math and science, connect what they learn to their lives, and hopefully discover the teacher in themselves.”

KGMB, KHNL-K5, KITV, and Oceanic will each commit airtime to the PSAs. The Hawai‘i DOE Teleschool Branch and UH Distributed Learning & User Services have also agreed to show them on their educational channels.

Executive producer and instructional media designer for educational technology, Patrick Nakamura, states, "We worked with production professionals, including Base Two Productions, Bluewater Multimedia, and HDology, to capture the stories with high-quality video and effects. We also appreciate the support of the students and teachers of Moanalua High School and the Hawai‘i Academy who volunteered to help and appear in the PSAs.”
