Each department contributes to the College as a whole and works together to help students achieve their goals as educators and life-long learners.
The Department of Curriculum Studies (EDCS) offers two advanced degrees at the master's level in Curriculum Studies and Early Childhood Education, and a specialization in the college-wide doctoral degree, in curriculum and instruction (PhD).
Educational Administration (EDEA) provides preparation at the master's and doctoral levels for a broad range of education-related administrative positions in K-12, community college, higher education and other settings.
Educational Foundations (EDEF) focuses on educational policies and issues, using both disciplinary and interdisciplinary applications through its master's degree and doctoral specialization.
Educational Psychology (EDEP), offering both a master's and PhD program, promotes inquiry in human learning and development within the context of a diverse society. Specifically, the major areas of study include human learning, human development, research methodology, statistics, measurement, and assessment & evaluation.
Educational Technology (ETEC) provides a dynamic program for educators seeking innovative ways to integrate emerging technologies for teaching and learning purposes. A master's degree and doctoral specialization are available.
The Institute for Teacher Education (ITE) offers undergraduate degrees in elementary and secondary education (BEd), a post-baccalaureate certificate in secondary education (PBCSE) and the Master of Education in teaching (MEdT). All programs result in eligibility for teaching licensure at the elementary or secondary levels. Those at the elementary or secondary level programs prepare future teachers to serve the ethnically diverse students of Hawaii.
Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Science (KRS) offers Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.), Bachelor of Science (B.S.), Master of Science (M.S.) and Master of Education (M.Ed.) degrees. Students declaring Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Science as a major can choose from the following areas of specialization: Athletic Training, Health/Exercise Science, Physical Education, and Rehabilitation Counseling.
The vision of the Special Education Department (SPED) is that of an inclusive society in which all individuals are afforded equal access and opportunities that improve the quality of life.
The Center for Disability Studies conducts a wide range of education, research, and service activities in collaboration with other disciplines. Core activities consist of education, interdisciplinary training, and technical assistance; community and university service; and research, dissemination, and evaluation. These activities are carried out under five initiative areas: School and Community Inclusion; Special Health Needs; Transition, Postsecondary Education, and Employment; Mental Health; and Pacific Outreach.
The Curriculum Research & Development Group is proud of nearly 40 years of commitment to quality. CRDG brings together teams from over 100 classroom teachers, curriculum specialists, educational designers, content scholars, editors, evaluators, media specialists, publishers, and staff developers to research and create innovative and effective solutions to today’s educational problems. Expert teams draw upon our own experience as well as the relevant research and expertise of others to create effective, award winning programs for grades K-12.
