Online & Alternative Delivery

The COE makes teacher preparation and advanced programs available throughout our island state. We also offer programs to the Pacific region and Worldwide. In recognition of our successful approach to distance education, we received the 21st Century Best Practices in Distance Learning award from the US Distance Learning Association in 2007.

The College focuses on flexibility in scheduling and efficiency of delivery, which has greatly increased online and web conferencing delivery in recent years. Our USDLA recognition was awarded based on our comprehensive approach, business plan, and management team - the COE Technology & Distance Programs Office. The descriptions below outline the types of non-traditional delivery we offer and link to associated program offerings.

Statewide Delivery – Online and Infrequent Travel
Programs designated as "Statewide" generally combine online delivery and infrequent travel (3-4 per semester) to serve Oahu and Oahu's neighbor islands. Travel to the UH Mānoa campus is required infrequently within some courses. Programs generally supply financial support for the required student travel, however, students are responsible for making their own travel arrangements.

Online Delivery
Online programs deliver all or nearly all of the program through Internet-based media. Initial program orientations are sometimes held face-to-face at UH Mānoa or another venue. The term "hybrid", sometimes applied to these programs, refers to instances where Internet delivery may be combined with other distance methods such as videoconference, correspondance, or classroom meetings.

Off-Campus and Evening Options
Some programs are offered at alternate venues, but maintain traditional classroom delivery methods. Evening options are designed to avoid traditional Monday to Friday, 8-5:00 working hours.
