The College of Education offers a variety of certificate and degree programs to help you with your career goals in education. Procedures for applying to undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, graduate, and doctoral programs differ. Advising is available to navigate both initial teacher licensure programs and our advanced programs.
Admissions and Advising for Teacher Licensure Programs
The Initial Teacher Licensure programs are for students who are seeking a license to teach. Applicants interested in applying to the College's Initial Teacher Licensure programs should consult with the Office of Student Academic Services (OSAS). Successful completion of a teacher licensure program will results in a Bachelor of Education degree, Post Baccalaureate Certification or a Master of Education in Teaching degree.
Advanced Preparation Programs
Advanced Preparation programs are for students who already have teacher licensure or for those whose work in the field do not require teacher licensure. These programs are comprised by our Master’s (with the exception of the Master's in Teaching MEdT) and PhD programs.
Master’s admissions procedures, in general, require a set of items be sent to the UH Graduate Division and another set of items sent directly to the department you are applying to. Refer to the the department for specific application instructions. Advising is done by department, so contact the department directly to obtain a faculty advisor.
Doctoral Admissions, in general, also requires a set of items be sent to the UH Graduate Division, but the other set of items are sent directly to the Educational Foundations PhD department (with the exception of the PhD in Educational Psychology). Advising is also done by department, so contact the department directly to obtain a faculty advisor.
Advising for the Bachelor of Science (BS) in Health and Exercise Science
OSAS also provides admissions and advising support for the Bachelor of Science (BS) in Health and Exercise Science from the department of Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Science. The BS degree does not lead to a license to teach.
