Will I receive a teaching license in Hawai'i if I complete this program?
No. The program is primarily designed for already-licensed teachers seeking professional development. Completion of courses within the program may lead to re-licensing. Some students take the EDCS program for other purposes, knowing it will not lead to a license.
The COE does have a masters program that satisfies part of the requirement for an initial teaching license in Hawai'i. The program is called the Master of Education in Teaching (MEdT).

How do I get to be an unclassified graduate?

A Post-Baccalaureate Unclassified (PBU) student is one who holds a bachelor's degree and who enrolls at UHM without seeking a specific degree. Unlike degree-seeking (classified) students, PBU students are not admitted to a specific degree program.

Beginning with the admission cycle for the 2008-09 academic year, the Graduate Admissions Office will offically process applications for post-baccalaureate unclassified (PBU) programs. To be eligible to apply for admission as a PBU student, an applicant needs to possess a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited U.S. college or university, or an equivalent degree from a recognized non-U.S. institution of higher education.
