Institute for Teacher Education

The Institute for Teacher Education (ITE) offers the following degrees:

Bachelor's in Elementary Education (BEd)
Bachelor's in Secondary Education (BEd)
Second Baccalaureate in Elementary Education (BEd)
Post-baccalaureate Certificate in Secondary Education (PBCSE)
Master's degree in teaching (MEdT)

Other programs that lead to teacher licensure are offered through the Special Education Department.

The students at UH Manoa are ethnically diverse as are the students in Hawai‘i's school system. Students in ITE programs, therefore, learn and teach in a unique multicultural environment.

Careers

Program completion leads to certification to teach within the state of Hawai‘i. Those pursing a Bachelor's, Post Baccalaureate, or Master's degree in the Institute for Teacher Education program are usually hired as Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle, or High School teachers within Hawai`i’s Department of Education.
