The Department of Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Science (KRS) in the College of Education offers a Post Baccalaureate teacher certification program for individuals who wish to teach Physical Education. The program is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE). It will prepare individuals for licensure in Physical Education (K-12).
Admission Information
Students interested in the post baccalaureate program must be admitted to the University's Graduate Division and then seek advising from faculty in this area from KRS.
Upon entrance, students should plan and take the PRAXIS I exam. Successful completion of initial content related coursework should precede the taking of the PRAXIS 2 exam. Both exams must be successfully completed, along with a minimum GPA of 2.75, experience of at least 40 hours with children, and an interview with a KRS Physical Education faculty member are required for admittance.
Departmental advising is strongly recommended on a regular basis. Students must have a genuine desire to work with children and youth, and demonstrate appropriate dispositions relative to Character, Work Ethic, and Respect.
Program Requirements
Upon completion of the post baccalaureate program students may apply to the KRS master's program. A portion of the post baccalaureate program may be used toward a master's degree in Physical Education or Adapted Physical Education.
The students in this program of study must demonstrate competence in motor skills and comprehensive knowledge relative to content in health and physical education as well as effective teaching strategies, National and state standards, diversity issues, assessment, and accountability.
