Join us tomorrow for

Join us tomorrow for the Department of Educational Foundations monthly talk.

This month’s topic: Emergent Inquiry for Ecosocial Justice: Relational Pedagogy in the Anthropocene with Dr. Kelly Victor.

Join us to discuss how the planetary crisis of the Anthropocene demands responsive, place-based approaches to pedagogy and educational research. Taking a posthuman, post-qualitative lens, we will explore what happens when inquiry moves away from rigid observational frameworks toward the movements and entanglements of lived experience. Drawing from field-based research on the North Shore of O’ahu, Dr. Victor traces how curriculum, ‘āina, and material-discursive school ecologies intra-act to shape how adolescents enact environmental care in their daily lives. Building from these insights, we will consider how relational pedagogies and emergent research designs can disrupt neoliberal schooling agendas and open new pathways for attending to the situated ecosocial justice needs of the communities where we live, work, and study.

About the speaker:
Dr. Kelly Victor is a curriculum coordinator and secondary English Language Arts teacher at Waialua High & Intermediate School, and a lecturer in the Department of Secondary Teacher Education at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa. Her research examines posthumanist theories in education, relational pedagogies, and ecosocial justice.
