BEd in EECE Student
What program are you enrolled in?
I am in the pre-licensure track for the dual prep elementary & early childhood program, and I'm looking at applying to the licensure track for Fall '18. I also work in the COE Office of Student Academic Affairs (OSAS) as student help.
Why did you choose this program?
I grew up in a cul-de-sac that had many children, and I'm one of the oldest kids in my extended family, so I was always entertaining the kids or, as I got older, babysitting them. My aunties and uncles were always telling me how great I am with kids, and I really enjoyed watching them. I think there's a lot to learn from children, and I love how excited they become over the simplest things. I think we lose a lot of that pure joy as we get older, and it's so precious for me to be able to watch them experience new things as they learn and grow.
Briefly describe your road to education.
I'm very much a family gal, so while I was initially very excited to go to the mainland for college, I ultimately decided to stay near home. Almost my whole family lives on O‛ahu, and I'm able to drive back home most weekends from my dorm. It's also really special to me because I have a few younger cousins who I can take places for fun.
Who/What have been your biggest influences?
My parents were very influential to my brothers and me as we grew up, and they always encouraged me to try my hardest no matter what. They also inspire me because I know they want the best for me, and I want to make them proud – as a first-generation college student, but also as a daughter.
What are your plans after you earn your degree?
I'm hoping to start teaching after I get my BEd and possibly go for a master’s while I am teaching. I'm not quite sure what the future holds, but I'm excited to see!
