Description:  This endowment was established by the Department of Special Education in recognition of Pearl N. Yamashita at her retirement after 43 years of service in the public schools in Hawaii and the University of Hawaii, College of Education.
Purpose:  The purpose of this fund is to attract and assist students enrolled at the College of Education at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, who are committed to careers in teaching in Hawaii. Preference shall be given to students majoring in Special Education and members of Pi Lambda Theta or Student Council for Exceptional Children.

Campus:  Manoa Level:  Undergraduate or Graduate Need Based:  Yes
College:  College of Education Standing:  any Min GPA:  3.5
Major:  Special Education, Elem Education & Special Educ Residency:  HI Resident only Gender:  Any
Enrollment Status:  Full-Time
Additional requirements: The prospective recipient should have graduated from a Hawaii high school and have some degree of financial need, not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines. Preference given to students majoring in Special education and members of Pi Lambda Theta or Student Council for Exceptional Children.
