The PIKO Program (NIH/NIGMS) is now accepting submissions for Year 1 Pilot Project proposals. New, early-stage, and/or transitioning CTR Investigators are invited to submit full proposals for PIKO pilot funding consideration.
Research Scope:
Proposals considered will focus on CTR with populations in Hawaiʻi bearing substantial health concerns and conditions. Clinical and/or translational research proposals focused on efficacy, effectiveness, implementation, adoption, and sustainability of health interventions are the primary focus of this call. Priority will be given to proposals with strong potential to lead to independent extramural funding.
Funding:
Selected PIKO Pilot Projects will be funded for one year, pending internal review and final approval by the External Advisory Committee and funding agency (NIH/NIGMS).
Award amounts are as follows:
- $50,000 up to $69,999 – standard pilot award for observational or small-scale studies.
- $70,000 up to $100,000 – higher pilot award for supplemental funding to a large-scale, ongoing funded clinical trial.
Applications are being solicited in anticipation of PIKO renewal funding, and the availability of pilot funding will be contingent on successful renewal of the Center grant.
Deadline to submit full proposals: Friday, May 8, 2026 (12 pm)
Notification of selected full proposals: Monday, June 1, 2026
