Sensory Spaces
Sensory integration benefits everyone. By adapting the sensory environment, people can improve their sensory processing and regulation, enhance their ability to engage in learning, build relationships, and navigate daily life more smoothly.
As part of the CAMP+U project, we have partnered throughout the UH system designing, installing, and providing technical assistance to each of the UH Sensory Space partners.

Sensory Space Initiative with Partners
The CAMP+U Mobile Sensory Kit features 13 different sensory items that appeal to a variety of sensory needs (visual, auditory, tactile, and olfactory elements). Designed as a controlled environment for self-regulation and stress management, the room offers a place to pause in the middle of a busy academic day.
Partnership Model
CAMP+U has partnered with all 10 campuses across the University of Hawaiʻi system, each of which now has a mobile sensory kit that can be used to create a sensory room, a shared “integrated” sensory space, or pop-up sensory experiences. These partnerships have brought together Office of Faculty Development and Academic Support, Student Basic Needs, Disability Services, Library, and Counseling services to support implementation on each campus.
UH Mānoa Sensory Room
In partnership with the OFDAS Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE), CAMP+U created a sensory room at the UHM located in Kuykendall Hall 106.
UH Mānoa Open Study Sensory Space
In partnership with the Student Success Center, CAMP+U integrated a sensory corner into the Open Study Space at the UHM, located in Webster Hall, Room 112.
UH Mānoa Hamilton Library
In partnership with the Hamilton Library, CAMP+U provided loanable sensory items available under the library’s Well-Being collection.
Pop Up Events
Sensory initiatives typically have launched with sensory pop-up events to raise awareness, introduce the concept of sensory integration, and build momentum on each campus.
