The Hawaii UCEDD Public Health Workforce project’s core function is to aid in community training and the continuation of education, with an area of emphasis in health related activities. The program is targeted toward professionals and para-professionals who are looking to advocate others in public health.

DIS 682: Health Equity and Disability Inclusion Special Topic Course, Refinement and Delivery

The public health professional refined and delivered a 16 Week, interdisciplinary, graduate level special topic course entitled “Health Equity and Disability Inclusion” offered through the Disability and Diversity Studies Program. The course explores disability and diversity across time to gain an understanding and context of issues such as difference, culture, identity, community, privilege, and oppression and how the past affects the present and future and serves as one of three courses in the public health workforce training sequence.
DIS 687: Equity Focused Quality Improvement Seminar, Development and Delivery

The public health professional developed, and delivered a new 16 Week, interdisciplinary, graduate level seminar entitled “Equity Focused Quality Improvement” to be offered through the Disability and Diversity Studies Program. The course offers in-depth explorations of current and compelling interdisciplinary topics related to advancing the social, political, educational, and economic integration of individuals with disabilities of all ages and serves as one of three courses in the public health workforce training sequence.

The public health professional delivered a graduate level directed research course (Summer 2023, Spring 2024, Summer 2024) offered offered through the Disability and Diversity Studies Program. The course is designed to support trainees to design and/or implement projects aligned with the CDC’s Essential Public Health Services (EPHS) framework and aligned with Health Equity and Disability Justice Principles through directed reading and/or research. The course serves as one of three courses in the public health workforce training sequence.

Recruit, Select, Onboard Public Health Trainees
