Call for Proposals – Educational Perspectives Special Issue “Hawaiian Places of Learning”

We are pleased to announce the relaunch of Educational Perspectives, the Journal of the College of Education, University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. Our first issue will feature the theme “Hawaiian Places of Learning.”

We invite proposals for articles with a diversity of perspectives on the multiple ways that kumu, haumāna, and kaiāulu across our pae ʻāina develop and foster Hawaiian Places of Learning. We encourage authors to consider, among other questions:

  • What does it mean and look like when formal and informal spaces in our schools and communities originate from, integrate, and highlight Native Hawaiian culture, language, values, and perspectives?
  • What are the ultimate goals or purposes of such Hawaiian educational spaces and how are these goals or purposes enacted and sustained?
  • What possibilities do these Hawaiian educational spaces enable and what constraints or challenges do they face?

Please review the Call for Proposals guidelines and information on what the proposal should include.  Proposals are due by April 15, 2026 at midnight.
