Instructional Conversations for Equitable Participation (ICEPs) build on the Instructional Conversation Standard. ICEPs are Instructional Conversations that foster meaningful participation by being collaborative and connected to students’ prior knowledge and everyday experiences. Equivalent Fractions

The teacher and students discuss the primary motives for overseas exploration historically being “God, gold, and glory.” Students then share why they would travel and why their family members have traveled, demonstrating that people may travel or explore for similar reasons today.

The teacher and students compare triangles and discuss strategies used to determine or prove that shapes are congruent.

Imperialism Game Debrief

Grade Level: 8

The teacher and students debrief after playing a game related to imperialism. They utilize content vocabulary, and they also discuss the outcomes of colonization on Native populations.

ʻAha ʻAina Reflections

Grade Level: 8

The teacher and students discuss ʻAha ʻAina, with students generating some of their own questions to guide this small group reflection. They also discuss what school core values or Nā Mea Waiwai they used as part of ʻAha ʻAina. ʻAha ʻAina is a time of gathering to eat where keiki honor their kūpuna, ʻohana, and the place that raised them through oli, hula, and mele. ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi translations for this video clip can be found here.
