Brief BiographyCharmaine Crockett, MA, CCR is Special Projects Coordinator at the Center of Disability Studies where she Co-Chairs and organizes the Pacific Rim International Conference on Disability and Diversity, manages a conference training outreach unit at the Center and drums up good local and global ideas for outreach and community participation. Previously, she worked in the area of human rights where she conducted human rights education trainings and enhanced the capacity of organizations and groups in post war zones and developing countries including India and Sierra Leone. She has co-chaired numerous international conferences including the UN-DPI conference, Rio plus 10- Civil Society Conference on Human Rights and the Environment and Engaging the World with Compassion which brought together thousands of people and thought leaders from all walks of life. She has jumpstarted several non profits, curated art exhibits and has sat on numerous local, national and international boards. She has published articles, training manuals and small books and has served on editorial boards. She has extensive experience working in the private sector including nine years at Goldman Sachs and four years at Scribner/ Macmillan Publishing House. For several years, she worked as an actress in commercials and theatre. She is an avid multi media artist, writer and photographer and spends a lot of time day dreaming for a better, more just world.
