Growing Up
I was born and raised on Maui. As a first-generation college student, my journey has been deeply influenced by my parents’ experiences, both of whom were born and raised in the Philippines.
Road to College & Career Path
My interest in higher education began when I became a summer leader for New Student Orientation in 2013 at UH Mānoa. I enjoyed welcoming students to campus, sharing resources and services, and leading campus tours. This experience sparked my desire to give back to the program, leading me to become a programming associate. During those years, I discovered my passion for higher education, which inspired me to pursue a Master’s in Education Administration – Higher Education. Today, I am proud to work at the university I once attended.
COE Impact
My COE program helped me understand the value of higher education and how to better support students. I gained insights into student development theories and leadership development, which helped me better understand the challenges students face during their college journey. This knowledge has been instrumental in my roles as an Onboarding Specialist overseeing New Student Orientation and in planning Commencement.
Work History
I served as the Interim Assistant Director for Student Events Programming for four and a half years and have been the Onboarding Specialist under the Office of the Vice Provost for Student Success for the past two and a half years.
Best Part of the Job
When I started this role, Dr. Lori Ideta described it as similar to stringing a lei. I meet students during New Student Orientation, see them grow and flourish over the years, and then celebrate their achievements at Commencement. It’s incredibly fulfilling to witness these milestones and be part of their transition through the university.
Future Plans
I hope to continue serving students and my university with dedication and passion for many years to come.
