Why did you choose to pursue a BEd in Elementary Education?
I chose to pursue a BEd in Elementary Education because teaching has always felt like something I was meant to do. I’ve always loved the idea of being able to guide students while also learning from them every day. I want to use that power to make a meaningful difference in students’ lives and help them feel seen, supported, and capable. I’m passionate about creating a classroom where students can explore their interests, grow their confidence, and develop strong critical-thinking skills. I have a genuine love of learning and I want to give all my students in the future the skills they need to be successful in whatever they choose to pursue.
How is the COE program impacting or benefitting your career path?
The COE program has been so helpful in shaping the educator I’m becoming. It has given me hands-on experiences and helped me build confidence in real classroom settings. Through coursework, field placements, and collaboration with peers and mentors, I’ve developed so much in my teaching practice and philosophy. The program has also helped me grow so much and it’s helped me envision the kind of teacher I want to be. I truly could not ask for a better program to help me develop and grow not only professionally, but personally.
Is there anyone in particular who inspired you to pursue a career in education?
There have been a few special teachers in my life who truly inspired me to pursue education. My high school social studies teacher, Ms. Mason, who also taught a Future Educators course, had such an impact on my outlook as teaching as a career. A lot of times I saw the negative discourse from some teachers about their profession, but seeing the impact Ms. Mason had on her students made me want to do the same. Her dedication and passion for learning showed me how meaningful it can be when a teacher believes in you. I carry those memories with me, and they motivate me to show up for my own students in the same way.
Do you work or participate in any clubs or organizations in or outside of school?
I have been involved with the COE Student Association (CESA) for three years, first as vice president and now as a member. Being part of CESA has helped me stay connected, support the community, and collaborate with others in the program. I’m also very involved with my cohort, and this is my third semester of student teaching, which has been one of the most valuable and meaningful parts of my experience so far.
Why did you apply to the Social Media Ambassador Program (SMAP)?
I wanted to be a Social Media Ambassador because I genuinely enjoy using social media as a way to connect with people and share meaningful content. I love creating visuals and videos. To me, social media isn’t just about posting; it’s about sparking conversations, making people feel connected, and showcasing our program. Over the years, I’ve experimented a lot with different platforms and styles of content. I feel I can bring enthusiasm, authenticity, and a strong sense of purpose to representing the program in a positive and engaging way.
What are your future plans with your degree?
With my degree, I plan to become an elementary school teacher and create a classroom where students feel supported, curious, and excited to learn. I hope to continue growing as an educator by pursuing professional development opportunities and possibly furthering my education down the line. My long-term goal is to make a lasting impact on my students, helping them build confidence, love learning, and see their own potential. Eventually, I’d also love to take on leadership roles within a school or district to help support other teachers and contribute to a strong learning community.
