How to Apply Instructions


New cohorts start only in Fall semesters. Application deadlines are as follows:

  • International Students: January 5 (refer to the International Admission Process for detailed information)
  • February 1: General Priority Deadline
  • March 1*: General Final Deadline

*SPECIAL FALL 2020 ENROLLMENT EXTENSION UNTIL JULY 1, 2020. Please note: application processes may experience some delays. We appreciate your patience as we work via distance throughout this extended enrollment period. 

Apply for UH Manoa Admissions:

If you are not already a student at UH Manoa, complete the UH Manoa Admissions application:

  • Institution: UH Mānoa
  • Site: UH Mānoa Main Campus
  • Application Type:
    • Incoming Freshmen: select “Undergrad
    • Sophomore (55+ credits) / Junior Transfer: select “Undergrad Transfer and Returning
  • Application Term: Fall
  • Planned Course of Study: Elementary Education-BEd
  • Concentration: leave blank
  • Application fee: $70 (non-refundable)

Apply into the College of Education via COE Makalei:

Ensure that you have selected the correct options when starting your COE Makalei application:

  • Degree: Bachelor’s Degree
  • Program: BEd, Elementary Education
  • Delivery Option:
    • Select Manoa Campus for face-to-face program, OR
    • Select Statewide for hybrid face-to-face AND online program
  • Semester: Fall
  • Major: BEd Elementary Education

COE Admission Requirements/Checklist on COE Makalei:

Follow the instructions and prompts on COE Makalei carefully. COE Makalei will help guide you through the COE (College of Education) admissions process:

  • Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher
  • Complete 55 credits
  • Complete UH Manoa General Education Core Requirements
  • Complete licensure track pre-requisite courses (see Coursework section)
  • Complete 40 hours of documented group leadership involvement with elementary-aged youth
  • Attend an admissions interview with the program
  • Write a personal statement/essay
  • Obtain three professional references (i.e., name, email, phone number, and relationship)
  • Repeated courses: list courses you repeated, if any


Official transcripts must be submitted directly from your college or university to UH Mānoa. You are required to submit transcripts from each post-secondary institution you have attended (excluding any University of Hawaiʻi System institution). Unofficial, faxed, hand-carried, or student copies of academic documents will not be accepted.

Due to campus closures, please send electronic transcripts for Fall 2020 admissions. The admissions office is unable to receive transcripts by mail at this time. If electronic transcripts are not available, please submit unofficial transcripts for now.
