In this lesson, students will explore the role of mathematical modeling in conservation efforts. They will learn about the California Condor’s decline and recovery, modeling the population data and making predictions using transformations of exponential functions. They will then use these skills to research a local species that is threatened or endangered, create a model to summarize their findings and make predictions and create a presentation to educate local residents about their chosen species and make recommendations for how to begin or continue to support species recovery.
