Sweet 16 parties, quinceañeras (celebration of a girl’s 15th birthday party in Latin America), school dances, and prom are all rites of passage for many teens. Depending on the event, different elements can be incorporated and common elements need to be considered. This lesson will guide students through brainstorming the necessary components for their event and creating a working budget based on the number of people invited. Many freshmen have attended or will attend events such as these during their high school years. For quinceañeras and Sweet 16 parties, the costs will usually be paid by the family so the family needs to know what to budget. For school dances and prom, the costs will be paid by funds raised by the grade-level committee, so the budget needs to be allocated. This lesson will allow students to understand how to plan and budget for an event.
