The College of Education Department of Educational Psychology (EDEP) is looking for a tenure-track Assistant Professor for the new School Counseling program.

Other Conditions: Appointment to begin August 2025. Selectee is required to complete the COE New Faculty orientation in the first year and will undergo a criminal background check. Position will work in partnership with the School Counseling program.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee planning and implementation of the School Counseling program, including program assessments;
  • Teach graduate classes in School Counseling and other classes in Educational Psychology, as needed and depending on expertise;
  • Recruit, advise, and mentor School Counseling students;
  • Maintain knowledge of licensure requirements for School Counseling and ensure the School Counseling program aligns with requirements;
  • Coordinate with The Office of Student Academic Services (OSAS) for submission of students’ completion data;
  • Work with the College of Education’s Director of Assessment, Accreditation, and Accountability and team to prepare and submit materials for accreditation and accountability;
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships with staff and colleagues;
  • Utilize excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills;
  • Utilize excellent strategic and analytic thinking skills to solve problems and make decisions;
  • Maintain an active program of research/scholarly activity and publications in area of specialization.
  • Perform service to the department, college, and university;
  • Other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. An earned doctorate in School Counseling, Mental Health Counseling, or closely related field from a college or university of recognized standing; will consider ABD if completed by date of hire;
  2. Experience teaching students in the field of counseling or education;
  3. Experience as a school or mental health counselor;
  4. Experience working with diverse and multicultural populations;
  5. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and social justice and experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse populations;
  6. Evidence of research productivity in school counseling, psychology or a related area.

Desirable Qualifications

  1. Certification as a school counselor or eligibility for certification or licensure as a mental health counselor;
  2. Experience teaching graduate students in school counseling or a related field;
  3. Experience mentoring and supervising students in school counseling field settings;
  4. Ability to successfully teach a range of school counseling courses across the curriculum;
  5. Ability to successfully teach online or hybrid courses in higher education;
  6. Strong working knowledge and understanding of established professional code of ethics and best practices;
  7. Understanding of issues related to school counseling in Hawaii;
  8. Evidence of scholarly activities related to counseling;
  9. Publications and grant funding related to research agenda.
