Prof. Floyd W. McCoy grew up on sugar plantations in Hawai‘i, in the midst of erupting volcanoes and tsunamis.  He earned both B.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Hawai‘i.  This interest was taken to the Mediterranean and Aegean Seas in studying the mega-eruption of Santorini in the Late Bronze Age, earning him his doctorate at Harvard.  Dr. McCoy is currently a Professor in Geology and Oceanography at the University of Hawai‘i’ and has been a visiting professor at the Universita di Milano, and at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens.
