KRS and Ritsumeikan students

The Athletic Training Program in the Department of Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Science (KRS) recently welcomed two students from Ritsumeikan University in Japan for a two-week educational exchange program focused on athletic training and sports medicine.

During their visit, the students participated in specialized learning activities on concussion management and cervical spinal motion restriction, including hands-on practice alongside UH Mānoa athletic training students. They also had the opportunity to observe athletic training services in clinical settings at UH Mānoa and Kalani High School, providing valuable insight into athletic training practice in the United States.

A highlight of the program was the closing ceremony where the students shared their experiences and reflections. Their presentations highlighted cultural differences they encountered during their stay as well as findings from interviews they conducted with athletic trainers and athletic training graduate students. They shared how the experience broadened their understanding of athletic training, positively influenced their personal and professional development, and strengthened their motivation to continue learning.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the athletic trainers at UH Mānoa and Kalani High School for welcoming the students and providing them with valuable clinical observation opportunities. Their support was an essential part of this meaningful international learning experience.
