Assistant Professor Clare Baek, of the Department of Learning Design and Technology (LTEC), will be leading two professional development opportunities for public school teachers this summer. These workshops, hosted at the College of Education, are part of the federally-funded ‘Computing and AI for All’ project. They offer a fantastic opportunity for growth, aiming to bridge computer science with real-world applications and culturally relevant practices.
WORKSHOP 1: COMPUTING + ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE + DATA SCIENCE
- Target Audience: 5th-grade public school teachers
- Focus: Culturally-relevant computing, local environmental science, and data science.
- Dates: June 15 – June 18
- Time: 8:30 AM – 2:30 PM
- Location: University of Hawai’i at Mānoa Campus
- Incentive: Eligible educators who complete the training and implement the curriculum will receive a $2,000 stipend.

WORKSHOP 2: CODING + AI LITERACY
- Target Audience: 6th–8th grade public school teachers
- Focus: AI literacy through block-based coding and building AI tools.
- Dates: July 6 – July 9
- Time: 8:30 AM – 2:30 PM
- Location: University of Hawai’i at Mānoa Campus
- Incentive: Eligible educators who complete the training and implement the curriculum will receive a $2,000 stipend.
