Anyone seeking a teaching license must meet the content knowledge requirements specified by the Hawaiʻi Teacher Standards Board (HTSB). The HAW+MEdT and HWST+MEdT BAM pathways have been designed to meet the content knowledge requirements for Elementary Education, Hawaiian Language or Social Studies with a dual license in Hawaiian Language Immersion. If prospective students are interested in pursuing a license in other fields like English, mathematics or science, this may be possible if they can meet the content knowledge requirement prior to applying for the MEdT Program. Anyone wishing to meet the content knowledge requirement by passing the approved licensure exam can refer to the HTSB Website for a list of approved exams and required scores. Alternatively, once receiving an initial teaching license, teachers may add additional license fields through the Hawaiʻi Teacher Standards Board after completing the MEdT program.
