social media ambassadors meet via Zoom

The UH Mānoa College of Education (COE) recently launched its Social Media Ambassador Project (SMAP) with 14 COE students. One of the main purposes of the project is to recognize, engage, and share about the college’s high-quality programs from the student perspective.

“In my role as the COE Recruitment Specialist, I aim to support prospective students by sharing about our programs and helping them to determine best next steps,” said Janet Kim. “I have always felt that the best way to showcase our amazing programs is through the lens of the college students themselves.”

Students were required to submit applications, including an introduction video about themselves, their COE program, and why they would make a good ambassador (examples of social media content were optional). Advisors or faculty in their program were also asked to submit a recommendation.

Once selected, the students are required to create a personal profile; attend one to two college recruitment events throughout the year; create at least 10 pieces of social media content; develop a media blog; create a “how-to” mini-lesson on a social media-based skill; and attend training and quarterly virtual meetings.

SMAP ambassadors receive $1000 for the designated school year as well as college/university merchandise, professional development opportunities, and potential travel funding to attend statewide events.

“This project was developed to give an inside look into all the different pathways we offer in the hopes that more people will connect and gain the confidence to pursue the program that best meets their goals,” said Kim.
