During the first week of September 2019, Hawaii News Now aired an education series, sponsored by the UH System and in support of the ongoing Be a Hero. Be a Teacher. campaign. The four-segment series highlighted some of the many ways the college, university, and state are not only recruiting and training Hawai‘i’s teachers, but also supporting and retaining them. Featured programs include the Grow Our Own teachers initiative, Teacher Academies and the Minor in Education degree program, Peer Mentoring, and Hawaiian Language Immersion*. All four Be a Hero. Be a Teacher segments are available below and on HINowDaily.com.
*Friday’s segment on Hawaiian immersion teacher education mistakingly implies that Kahuawaiola at UH Hilo and COE’s Hawaiian immersion programs at UH Mānoa are the same program. Correction is forthcoming.
