Hawkins' Scholar Overview
For the third year of PEA funding, Oahu-based candidates were provided with $1,350 and neighbor-island candidates were provided with $1,600 each as part of this scholarship. Similar to the previous year, we saw an increase in neighbor-island applicants, with 53% of scholars being from a neighboring island.
A total of 63 candidates were awarded in Spring 2025, providing at least $85,050 in funding with candidates representing targeted areas in building a more robust educator workforce.

When asked “Why would receiving this funding be important to you?” recipients shared:
“This funding brings me one step closer to achieving my goal of getting my Bachelor’s of Education in Special Education!”
“This scholarship will help me in buying thing I would need for my class and students for next school year. As money is tight I have been using my own money on getting items I needed this year.”
“As I am currently unemployed due to completing my field experience work, this funding would help to relieve some of the costs needed for basic living. “
