Why did you choose to become a teacher, in general?

I chose to become a teacher because I found joy in helping others learn and grow. In high school, I found myself getting excited when my peers understood something after I helped them. At the beginning of college, I stumbled upon the opportunity to tutor multilingual learners. From then on, I have become more invested in learning how to teach students of different backgrounds and needs that don’t always fit in the general education setting.

Why did you choose to become licensed in special education?

I chose to become a licensed special education teacher because I wanted to foster the skills needed to be an inclusive teacher regardless of the setting. I wanted to make sure that I would be able to differentiate for all students and stay true to making education accessible to all.

Why do you feel it is important to have diversity in the classroom?

The world is a very diverse place and the classroom is meant to prepare students for the world. Therefore, it should reflect what the students will encounter in the real world. A diverse classroom fosters learning by inviting different perspectives and encourages everyone in the space to become well-rounded individuals.
