Why did you choose to become a teacher, in general?

Teaching offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on students’ lives. Helping students succeed academically, socially, and emotionally can be incredibly rewarding. Teaching allows for creativity in lesson planning and instructional methods. While teaching can be demanding, the schedule often allows for a better work-life balance compared to some other professions, including time off during holidays and summer breaks.

Why did you choose to become licensed in special education?

I have the desire to make a meaningful impact in the lives of students with diverse needs and to help children reach their full potential. This opportunity to make a significant difference in a child’s life can be incredibly rewarding. There is often a high demand for qualified special education teachers, which can provide job security and opportunities for career advancement. Special education offers a dynamic and challenging work environment. Educators in this field must be creative, patient, and adaptable, which can lead to significant personal and professional growth.

Why do you feel it is important to have diversity in the classroom?

Diversity in the classroom is important for several reasons: Diverse classrooms expose students to different perspectives and ideas, fostering critical thinking and broadening their understanding of the world. Interacting with peers and teachers from various backgrounds helps students develop cultural awareness and sensitivity, essential skills in an increasingly globalized society. Regular interactions with diverse individuals can reduce stereotypes and biases, promoting inclusivity and respect. Diversity enriches the educational experience, promotes personal growth, and better prepares students for their future roles in a diverse world.
