Why did you choose to become a teacher, in general?
I chose to become a teacher because I truly feel that I have a deep passion for teaching and educating young minds in Hawaii. Hawaii is my home and I want to give back to a place that has given so much to me. I believe that my love for teaching and my personality plays a vital role in why I love teaching. I see that our young Hawaiian keiki are living in a world that needs ʻōiwi leaders, so I want to be a contributing member to that vision. Hawaiians will be strong leaders that can bring back the Hawaiian culture in its purest form. I also believe that teaching is our worldʻs foundation so I want to be apart of creating generations that contribute to our world in positive and uplifting ways.
Why did you choose to become licensed in special education?
I chose to become licensed in special education because I believe that students with disabilities deserve to get the same educational experience as other students. Growing up a lot of students with disabilities were separated from general ed students. I want to bring and encourage the idea of inclusive classrooms in my classroom. Our world needs to learn from a young age about inclusivity so that when children are adolescents there is no separation. Diversity and inclusivity are the main goals.
Why do you feel it is important to have diversity in the classroom?
I feel that it is important to have diversity in the classroom because our society is so diverse and providing the correct environment will help our society to grow. Diversity is what makes our society so unique and colorful. Encouraging and teaching diversity will help us to nurture this mindset and correct old stigmas.
