Why did you choose to become a teacher, in general?

In some ways I didn’t choose to become a teacher, teaching chose me. Having autism, being on an IEP since intermediate school, and coming from an inappropriate background (until taken in by my grandparents). Education has changed my life and I am convinced it will change my future. I feel I can be understanding and helpful to a wide range of students.

Why did you choose to become licensed in special education?

As mentioned above, I am on the autistic spectrum and have increasingly become aware of the needs and insights that people with disabilities have. By becoming a licensed special ed instructor, I can reach out to those so often neglected or misunderstood.
