Why did you choose to become a teacher, in general?
I chose to become a teacher because I wanted to give back to the community that has already given so much to me–Waipahu. This was really the main reason why I wanted to go back to school and become a teacher. After aimlessly going through my undergraduate program, it finally dawned on me after a year post-graduation that I wanted to teach at my alma mater.
Why did you choose to become licensed in special education?
I chose to become licensed in special education because I believe this is a very underserved population and an area in need of immense growth. These students are just like any other students, and they have the same type of potential as other students. I want to help them and guide them to see the potential they have in them.
Why do you feel it is important to have diversity in the classroom?
I feel that it is important to have diversity in the classroom because it keeps a level of balance in terms of things such as ideas, biases, questions, voices, and so much more. The conversations and discussions that we can have in a diverse classroom are immense and the concepts that we can learn from our diverse students and vice versa with teachers are never ending.
