Why did you choose to become a teacher, in general?

The pillar of why I chose to become a teacher was so that I could have a career that allowed me to serve others. I find life is more rewarding and enjoyable when my efforts are put towards helping those in need. Teaching allows me to get involved with my community and spread the love and aloha that I possess. I love to work in vibrant communities, surround myself with people of different walk of life and guide children, all of which teaching allows me to do.

Why did you choose to become licensed in special education?

As opposed to traditional education, special education allows me to build more intimate relationships with students and their families. Additionally, after interviewing a variety of teachers, I determined that special education would be more well suited for me. A monumental experience for me as to why I chose special education was when I was hospitalized for several months where I was temporarily put in a wheelchair and relied on others to physically assist me with everything. This experience allowed me to better understand children with physical disabilities. I want to assist others in the same way where I was assisted in the hospital.
