Why did you choose to become a teacher, in general?

I’ve been inspired by some of my past teachers to become a teacher myself. I wanted to make other children feel how my past teachers made me feel, which is safe, included, valued, etc. My past teachers also have made my learning experiences fun and memorable. I would also like my future students to have fun and memorable learning experiences. Also, with the skill sets that I have like being patient, adaptable, organized, and creative made me think that those are some skills that teachers need, which then made me think to give teaching a try.

Why did you choose to become licensed in special education?

I chose to become a licensed special education teacher because I have not had much experience with working with children with a disability, nor have I had much experience in Special Education, I knew the only way to get experience and learn the difference between a general education classroom setting and a Special Education classroom setting was only to sign up for a dual licensed program and get experience with both!

Why do you feel it is important to have diversity in the classroom?

I feel it is important to have diversity in the classroom because you would want the students to feel like they and their culture, ethnic backgrounds, etc., are welcomed and included in the classroom. A student feeling comfortable and welcomed in a classroom will positively impact their learning experiences. Another reason why I think diversity is important in the classroom is because students should learn about diversity. This would then allow the students to learn about a variety of different backgrounds, culture, abilities/disabilities, etc.
