Why did you choose to become a teacher, in general?

I have been an Educational Assistant for special education at Honoka’a High and Intermediate School for the last 19, almost 20 years, so it was time. I wanted to learn more about Autism, and for me, I like to learn more in general. Plus, I promised my parents I would become a teacher, so here I am starting my journey.

Why did you choose to become licensed in special education?

My friend and colleague Michael Yoshida, passed in April of this year, and he was helping me study for the Praxis(originally, I was trying to finish my goal of becoming a licensed elementary teacher with Chaminade). He patiently explained and was helping me through that test when he unexpectedly died. This goal of mine is part to honor him, my parents, and also to complete my dream of becoming a teacher. It’s been life long dream to obtain my Bachelors and become a licensed teacher within the DOE.
