Why did you choose to become a teacher, in general?

I wanted to become a teacher because school is such an important part of life. It’s where you learn about important things in life, make new friends, try new things, and learn about what you like and don’t like to do for fun and teachers help guide you to success along the way. I still remember my preschool and kindergarten teacher who made me love coming to school every day and watched me grow as a student and become the person I am today. But in high school, there was a time when I was struggling and my math teacher noticed I was struggling and was motivated to help me succeed. She took the time to help me one on one to understand the lessons. Those teachers had a passion for what they were doing and inspired me to become a teacher. Everyone has that one teacher that they will never forget and I want to be the kind of teacher that has a lasting impact on my students.

Why did you choose to become licensed in special education?

I have family members who I am close with who have special needs, so I have some experience with working with kids who have special needs. I think that it is important for everyone to have a fair learning experience no matter what and you cant have that unless there are more teachers that are specialized in teaching students with special needs. and I believe that every child needs an advocate for them if they have no one to be an advocate for them and I will happily step into that role if I need to.
