Frambaugh Kritzer new book cover

Critical Friendship as a Self-Study Research Tool: A Comprehensive Resource Exploring the Complexities, co-authored by Charlotte Frambaugh-Kritzer, is a part of the Springer Self-Study of Teaching and Teacher Education Practices series (STEP, Volume 27).

This new book by Dr. Charlotte Frambaugh-Kritzer and Dr. Elizabeth Petroelje Stolle offers both new and seasoned researchers a deeper understanding of how critical friendship functions as a reflective, relational, and rigorous research tool. Drawing from over 20 years of collaboration, Charlotte and Elizabeth weave together theory, personal narrative, and dramatic playscripts to reveal the emotional, intellectual, and ethical layers of critical friendship within teacher education. Rooted in the S-STEP community and enriched by international conference collaborations, the book introduces practical tools the authors developed and refined over time, including the Critical Friendship Continuum and the Critical Friend Quality Criteria Guide. Each chapter also features Take Action sections. These provide practical steps and reflection prompts, making the book not only a scholarly contribution but also a hands-on guide for those engaging in meaningful critical friend work.

* A copy of the book is available online through the UH Mānoa Library.
