Why did you choose to pursue to pursue MEd Curriculum Studies, Math Education & Ethnomathematics Certificate program?

I chose Ethnomathematics because the program objectives affirm and align with my pedagogical beliefs that students should be given opportunities to engage in place-based, culturally relevant mathematics as part of a collaborative classroom community. I am excited to incorporate what I learn in this program in my instructional practice so that students can make meaningful connections to mathematics and recognize how mathematics is relevant in their daily lives.

Why did you want to be a Social Media Ambassador for your program?

I would like to be an ambassador to share the meaningful work and learning we do in the Ethnomathematics program with prospective students. Our Summer Immersion Week is coming up and I feel like that is one of the highlights of the program. I am looking forward to documenting our cohort’s experiences engaging in place-based, culturally sustaining service learning around the island of Oʻahu. Finally, I find a lot of joy in teaching and learning and enjoy experiences where I can share that joy with others.

Anything else you’d like to share?

I am a fifth grade teacher in the Hawaiʻi DOE.
