Why did you choose to pursue to pursue the Minor in Education program?

Hi, I’m Jonathan! I’m a senior graduating this May, majoring in Sociology and minoring in Education and Psychology. I chose to study these fields because I love people — and I love learning about how they grow, think, and connect. My experiences in youth ministry and recreation helped me realize how much I value helping others feel understood and supported. I love being able to apply what I learn in class to my work with students, families, and in my community. I have experience working with people of all ages, which has given me an extra sense of respect and empathy for each stage of life.

I joined the College of Education about a year and a half ago, and it has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. The classes I’ve taken, especially STE 403E, have been some of the most impactful and inspiring. I aspire to become a school counselor, and I want to be someone that other COE students — the teens and youth I work with now, and the students I’ll serve in the future — can look to and know that wherever their journey starts, they can make it through. I want to remind them never to give up and always to trust in the journey.

Why did you want to be a Social Media Ambassador for your program?

I’d love to be a Social Media Ambassador because I truly believe in the heart of the College of Education and the impact it has on students like me. I love people — hearing their stories, sharing mine, and finding ways to connect. I’ve been blessed to lead my church’s middle school ministry, teach 3rd grade catechism, and work at ʻAiea District Park, where I manage social media and help organize community events.

These experiences taught me how powerful connection can be, both in person and online. I’d bring that same joy, heart, energy, creativity, and care to help highlight the amazing students, programs, and opportunities within the College of Education.
