Why did you choose to pursue to pursue MEd Curriculum Studies, Multicultural Education program?

I’ve decided to partake in this program because of the intertwining of my professional and personal goals as an educator. For my undergraduate degree, I majored in Elementary and Special Education. The goal I’ve set for myself has always been to find out how to best cater to students’ various abilities, cultures, interests, and needs. My hope going into this program is that I’ll be able to learn strategies, acquire skills, and understand more about myself to be the best teacher I can be.

Why did you want to be a Social Media Ambassador for your program?

I would be honored to serve as a Social Media Ambassador for my program. Curriculum Studies has been invaluable in deepening my understanding of both the teaching profession and my growth as an individual. Through this experience, Iʻd like the opportunity to showcase why and how this program deserves itʻs recognition for developing educators to best fit the diverse perspectives and community here in Hawaiʻi.

The College of Education has been extremely welcoming and encouraging. Iʻve been so fortunate to be a part of the ohana from my undergraduate career and continuing on to future years in my program. Iʻd like to let others know how important and unique the various programs are here at UH Manoa and how crucial the need for passionate teachers is. ”

Anything else you’d like to share?

Currently, along with my graduate school career, I am working at the Office of Student Academic Services (OSAS) as a Graduate Assistant. With my position, I advise mostly freshman and sophomore students whoʻs majors are in the College of Education. I advise students with registration, navigating UHM resources, and creating goals and objectives for their college careers. I will also be taking part in a few College of Education recruitment events.

Apart from my job at OSAS, I recently got admitted to a fellowship program with the College Opportunities Program (COP). COP is a program that provides Hawaiʻi residents (usually freshmen) admission to the University of Hawaiʻi at Manoa through a summer and first-year experience. Some of my responsibilities in this position include: assisting staff with recruitment presentations and events, supporting outreach through social media and alumni engagement, interviewing student applicants, etc.

Before this school year, I was a SMAP Ambassador while I was a part of the Exceptional Students in Elementary Education cohort. I collaborated on many posts with my peers and had a fun time creating content for the College of Education.
