Crafting a Secondary-Level Fine Arts Curriculum Through Reflective Practices
Poster Session
This research project explores curriculum development through reflective practices in order to design an educational model that enriches students’ emotional intelligence, develops their critical thinking/ problem-solving skills, and encourages them to embrace challenges by strengthening their resilience. To accomplish this, I revisited and analyzed the body of artwork I produced as a student to assess how well my interests and sources of inspiration aligned with the different styles of visual arts curricula I engaged with. I also evaluated the effectiveness of projects and assignments I completed by judging its impact on my artistic growth, and how well it resonated with me. I took the information I have gathered, and designed a visual arts educational model that aims to not just satisfy the National Core Arts Standards, but do so in a manner that students will find value in.
