FlourishED: Stress Management and Well-Being Strategies for Preservice Teachers
Oral Presentation
FlourishED is a positive psychology–based well-being module designed to support stress management among preservice teachers. Developed as a Master’s capstone project in Learning Design and Technology, this project responds to concerns about teacher stress and burnout by introducing structured, evidence-informed strategies within teacher preparation.
Grounded in the PERMA framework, the module integrates gratitude practices (Three Good Things), optimistic explanatory style, mindfulness-based attention training, and guided breathing techniques. This presentation traces the full instructional design process from problem identification and theoretical grounding through iterative development and usability testing. Approximately 15 preservice educators completed the pilot module and participated in pre- and post-evaluations assessing knowledge, attitudes, and self-reported behaviors.
Descriptive findings related to stress management awareness and coping strategy use will be shared. The session emphasizes design decisions, usability refinements, and exploratory outcome patterns rather than causal claims, and concludes with reflections on methodological considerations and future research directions.
