How does college student athletes’ participation in college competitive sports affect their mental health?
Oral Presentation
This research project aims to analyze publicly available data to explore the mental health outcomes of college student-athletes compared to non-athletes. Specifically, the study will focus on the levels of anxiety, depression, and stress that athletes experience based on their participation in competitive sports. The analysis will also examine the potential influence of emotionally abusive coaching behaviors on mental health outcomes. Using existing datasets, this research aims to identify patterns and relationships without direct participant interaction or data collection. The findings will contribute to a deeper understanding of the unique mental health challenges student-athletes face, offering insights that could inform future interventions and support systems.
