School Climate in Hawai`i
Oral Presentation
The COVID-19 pandemic drastically changed the way students, families, and other members in the school system perceived and interacted with their environment. Experiences within the system, which are often reflected in school climate reports, has also continued to alter overtime. In the current study, I use school climate to observe changes in participants’ perception of their environment and as indicators for academic outcomes. School-level variables were obtained from the Hawai`i Department of Education (HIDOE) Accountability Resource Center (ARCH) during the 2018-19 to 2022-23 school years. Multilevel Growth Models were used to analyze: a) whether there were significant changes in school climate factors overtime (e.g. parents’ perspective on school safety, teachers’ perspective on school involvement), and b) the impact school climate covariates had on school-level math and language arts scores.
