Message to Teacher Candidate
We are so excited to have you be a part of our classroom family! My name is Brooke Hong (or Ms. Hong to the students) and I have been teaching at Enchanted Lake Elementary School for 6 years now. I have taught the gambit of elementary from K-6, resource, to fully self-contained (FSC). I am currently placed in a Resource K-2 classroom so get ready to meet the littles.
I became a special education teacher after being inspired by my mentor teacher who was a special education teacher for students with extensive support needs. The way my mentor was able to reach students who displayed severe behaviors that no other teacher on campus could, was a driving motivation to continue my studies in education and strive to make an impact as he did. I choose to support new teachers in this profession because to say it is overwhelming starting out would be an understatement and a disservice. I would have been lost if I did not have my mentors along the way to help support me both professionally and emotionally and I want to help others as they did for me.
