Scott’s research has focused on teaching and learning in schools based on the beliefs, values, and behaviors of teachers and students. His scholarly interests have evolved over time beginning with the broad field of secondary  science education then transitioning to social and emotional learning and culturally relevant pedagogy in K-12 school contexts. He applies qualitative and mixed methods investigations to make sense of how he and others perceive classroom environments based on their identities. Currently, Scott examines listening in education contexts as well as applying Invitational Education in national and international schools to promote student growth in asset based mindsets. His overarching research identity centers on connection with self and others in learning environments.

Scott Robinson taught middle and high school science in public and private schools in Ohio from 1986-1992. Then he served as a teacher educator in New York from 1995-2006 before joining the College of Education at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa in 2006. At UH Mānoa, he works as a teacher educator in the Master of Education in Teaching program within the School of Teacher Education. Scott received a BS in Conservation from Kent State University in 1983, an MA in Educational Studies from The Ohio State University in 1991, and a PhD in Science Education from Florida State University in 1995. Scott is grateful to everyone who helped him on his academic journey.
