Students had planted the “three sisters” plants (corn, beans, squash) in the māla for a Social Studies project related to early American history. Students measured their plants five times over a three-month span. Each student kept track
of their own plants and measurements in their notebooks. This lesson is an introduction to graphing multiple sets of data on the same graph. Students will create scatterplots of their plant
data and they will come up with five questions about the
graph created. We will use the graphs again later in the unit when students have learned more about data analysis. We can then look for trends, and lines of best fit, and make predictions.
