The purpose of this lesson is to have a dialogue and exercise problem solving, using language as a tool to reflect on the school and personal culture around mathematics. Students will practice problem solving by using a very structured method, following the the “Story” problem blueprint of: “1) Circle and underline key words, important numbers, and units 2) Write question the problem is asking 3) Lis all of the relevant information 4) Show a model 5) Solve the problem and show your work 6) Answer the question the problem is asking in a complete sentence with units.”
